Japanese Countryside Retreat
OUR HOUSE
Just an hour's journey from Tokyo, our traditional farmhouse is nestled in the heart of the Japanese countryside, surrounded by rice paddies, shrines, parks and golf courses. Over the past three years, we've restored and modernised it to create the perfect weekend getaway for our family and friends. From this summer, we're inviting others to try the experience. With its natural swimming pool, indoor and outdoor kitchens, gym, sauna and treehouse, you can experience a traditional Japanese setting in unparalleled luxury, whether as a family looking to enjoy time together or travellers wanting to try something special during your time in Japan.

STAY
With three Japanese tatami rooms downstairs and two Western-style bedrooms on the second floor, the house offers flexibility and enough space for families to stay together under one roof
WE LOVE
Kids
The house was built to give our kids some treasured memories growing up. Our young visitors love the hidden playroom upstairs, the treehouse by the gate and, of course, the swimming pool.
Eating
Food is a central part of the experience of staying at Shirohana. Indoor and outdoor kitchens, a 12-seater sunken dining room, gorgeous island kitchen and a fabulous gas grill give you the chance to show off your culinary skills to family and friends
Exercise
Alright, so maybe we don't love exercise, but the view from the the treadmill is outstanding and the sauna gives all of us a reason to go there!
Reading
Shirohana has a bunch of places to lie back and read so we've put a Japanese/English book collection together that we think has something for everyone.
The Pool
Did we mention that Shirohana has an architect-designed natural swimming pool, the first of its kind in Japan? Its really rather lovely

OUT AND ABOUT
Golf
This is golf country. Stick a pin in the map anywhere around our house and you'll find an awesome course to play.
Walking
With shrines and temples on all sides, take a walk in the Japanese countryside and experience a very different type of Japan.
Beaches
The house is a 10-minute drive from the nearest beach at Shirako, which is safe for swimming and popular with surfers. A few minutes further down the road is Kujukuri which we love.
More eating
Local izakayas, beach cafes and pretty much every type of international cuisine all within a few minutes drive from the house
Parks
Plenty of parks to choose from in the area, but our favourite is Mobara Park with its gorgeous pond and great play areas for kids.
Fishing
Not really an area of expertise for us, but lots of fishing around our area, if that floats your boat.
